| Coins for a cause |
| From Nov. 21 to Dec. 16, Jaworek students and staff collected loose change from under couch cushions, from pockets and the bottoms of purses, and from wherever else coins turn up to donate to the city’s Heat and Eat Program. Each day, classrooms included the day's collections in their academic and community-building lessons. Then they took the coins to the lobby, added them to a jug, and watched the “barometer” on a poster inch its way up as it reflected the total coins donated. On Dec. 19, then-Mayor Nancy Stevens picked up the $981.50 and delivered it to the Heat and Eat Program to help area families who are having trouble meeting food and utility expenses. |
